E ai ki nga korero
Ko ngaati o te Paua
he koha no Te Atua
o Te Moana, ko Tangaroa...
Maori legend says that the colors
of the Paua shell, also known as
“Abalone”were gifted by “Tangaroa”
god of the sea.
Tangaroa took the coolest blues of
the ocean, the freshest greens of
the forest, a tinge of violet from
the dawn, and a blush of pink from
the sunset.
Tangaroa used all these colors to
create the most intricate patterns
found inside the shell of the paua,
reminding us that beauty is hidden
on the inside.
